Body Fluid
Water form the most abundant constituent of the body total weight (45%-75%) and this is large variation between (45-75). This does not mean that the content of water is fluctuated daily in the body, but the volume for each person is always constant and variation is due to the presence of fat in the body. So obese (fat person) has lowest content of water, while the newborn baby has a highest percentage of water. The water content is differ between male and female, in general it is high percentage in males than females due to the presence of adipose tissue or fat in female is more than that in male. The accepted percentage in males are 60%, but in female are 50% (? 5%). (So we can say that water in the body depends on the amount of fat, so high % of fat ? low % of body water content). The content of water is usually not distributed in equal percentage because some parts have high percentage of water and other have lower percentage. There are three sources for water: 1. Drink water 1200 Urine 1400 ml/day. 2. Ingest food 900 Lung and skin 900 ml/day. 3. Oxidation of food 300 Feces 100 ml/day. (Taken INPUT 2400 = OUTPUT 2400 (Excreted) So, the water is a very vital substances for whole activity of the body because most of the substances required by the body usually found dissolved in water, for this reason the water known as body fluid. Body fluid usually distributed in body through 3 compartments: 1. Extracellular compartment. 2. Intracellular compartment. 3. Transcellular compartment.
